Worried about STIs

If you're worried you might have caught an STI, don’t panic. You can book an appointment in your local sexual health service (which might be a Virgin Care service) and we have plenty of information to help you practice safe sex too.

Worried about STIs?

If you are worried that you might have caught a sexually transmitted infection (STI) then we can help.

There are a few common signs and symptoms to look out for, these include:

  • Unusual discharge from the vagina
  • Discharge from the penis
  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Itches, rashes, lumps, bumps or blisters around the genitals or bottom
  • Pain and/or bleeding during sex
  • Bleeding between periods (including women who are using hormonal contraception)
  • Bleeding after sex
  • Pain in the testicles (balls)
  • Pain in the lower stomach

Many people have no symptoms and carry the infection without knowing. This is why it is important to test frequently or seek medical advice if:

  • You’ve had unprotected sex with a new partner recently
  • You’ve been told by a partner that you may be at risk of an infection

There’s absolutely nothing to worry about or be ashamed of. The tests are usually quick and painless, and some can even be done yourself.

So, if you’re experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, we advise that you visit your nearest sexual health clinic as soon as you can. You can find out if there is a Virgin Care service near you using our clinic finder tool.

If you would like to know more, make sure you check out our pages that tell you more about each type of STI, including the symptoms to look out for and how to avoid, test and treat them.
